If you connect to your laptop and tell the laptop to tell the modem to switch of?

Or plug it out from the sockets?

Do you mean restart by off/on ? . If so, the most common way is to open your browser and enter the ip address of the cable modem. You will get a web management interface. There will be an option like 'System Commands' or similar , choose it and under this menu you will have commands to restart the modem. Note: If your modem is one of the lower end model. It may not support web management , there is alternative way to restart the modem if it lacks the web management interface. Get back to me if you need to know the alternative procedure.

Hopes it helps,

192.168.100.1 should be your receivers (modem for layman's) IP address. The tab you are looking for is "Configuration" and the best you can do is restart your receiver. Maybe a third party app can turn it off completely, but then the only way to turn it back on would be to press the power button on the device.
