It my just be the fuse, in which case look under the steering column for the fuse box (all the fuses should be labeled on the fuse panel cover).
The fuse box may also be under the hood (debends on the car). If the fuse is not blown or defective, the hot (red) wire going to the lighter may be damaged. You can test it with a voltometer you can find at radioshack for 5-10 bucks. If the wire is burnt out, there is usually a wire you can tap into that goes to the stereo. This wire will either be yellow or red, and a little thicker than most other wires going to the stero. Just splice into that wire and run another one to the lighter. It also may short out because of a bad ground. That you can just run a black wire from the lighter to a piece of metal that is right under the stereo. good luck.

You may have a blown fuse. You should check those first. You can buy new fuses just about anywhere, even gas stations. If that doesn't work, sometimes you can get a little free advice from Advanced Auto Parts as to what to do next.

if the fuse is blown replace it. if the lighter itself is burn out you can buy replacement ones(the lighter part that pushes in to the peceptacle).if the whole assembly is bad you can also get a repalcement one.

Check fuse to see if burned out if not , they are probably fairly inexpensive to replace at a nearby auto parts store.
