The cory will do better with a few fellow cory. They don't need to be the same type. A single dwarf gourami would be nice. (Dwarfs are peaceful to any fish, but another dwarf. Avoid other gourami.) Danios, and killifish would work well. A small breed pleco, oto, or Saimese algae eater would be good. Avoid common pleco as they get 1-2 foot in length. Avoid common (Chinese, and gold) algae eaters as they get big, and develop a taste for meat.

As far as numbers you can put 20-30 small fish like tetras in a 40 gallon tank. All of the fish I've talked about above follow the 1 inch of fish per gallon rule.

PS- Puffers are a bad fish for this tank. The leopard puffer is brackish, and dwarf puffer is a cute rolly polly angel or death.

You still have lots of room for more fish. I would definetly get more of the same species of cory. 9 more would be great. Then you would still have room for maybe 4 german rams. Make sure to get 1 male and 3 females if you get 4. If your water is soft enough they will probably spawn, so provide lots of cover because rams become very protective when spawning and will attack anything that comes too close. Avoid angelfish because they will eat the neons when they get big enough.

Hmm... 1 or 2 puffer fish could be a great addition to you tank because not only are they very fascinating but the also will help your tank.I would suggest if you do get a puffer you get a leopard puffer they are very stable fish they don't require any special needs or anything. So thats my suggestion.

Any community fish, those seem pretty good to start with, I used to have a tank with nothing but neons, theres lots of varities of them, bleeding hearts , lemons, etc. Your fish or pet store should tell you which is best suited

Your corydora won't do well on its own. It's a schooling fish and does better in groups of 6. To start you may want to add more cories.

Since you like Schooling fish, I like Danios. I also recommend any of the algae eaters (such as the Siamese Algae Eater) since you have a lot of plants to care for.

more corys. they are schoolers. you could add some larger tetra and that would be kind of cool -- like a tetra tank.
