Procrastination always keeps me from getting to work. Somehow, I always find something ELSE to do, some pointless exercise to keep me from accomplishing anything.
Any suggestions would be helpful. =)

Most procrastinators are perfectionists. They are usually highly intelligent and ironically have high expectations of themselves. You must learn to become less perfectionistic and just focus on getting the thing done early, not perfectly and you'll be fine. Always remember the three P's: Perfectionism leads to Procrastination and that leads to Paralysis When we procrastinate due to the fact that we don't think we're ready to do it "right", then it gets late and when it;s late, we become paralyzed and end up doing a much weorse job than if we'd just turned in a half *** work product to begin with. We're like this because we're easliy overwhlmed. The cure is to just turn everything else off and sit down with it and take one chunk out of it at a time without letting the entirety of the project intimidate you. Just say I will do this one page at a time or pne prblem at a time and it will get done... One step at a time. Do this NOW! You CAN make yourself turn the computer off now and just do one single item! Just one and the rst will follow!

What you really need is a dose of ‘Time management’ to get your life in order. Time management is the art of arranging, organizing, scheduling, and budgeting one’s time for the purpose of generating more effective work and productivity. Time can't be managed, time is uncontrollable we can only manage ourselves and our use of time with the ability to plan, delegate, organize, direct and control.

Here are a few tips and techniques to help you manage your time and gain greater control of your life

First list your ‘time specific items, e.g. meetings and then write down the tasks you have to complete.

Once you have prioritized your tasks, make a ‘to do’ list and work through the items in priority order.

Do difficult jobs first, when you are at your best. Look after minor jobs when you are tired.

When you start a piece of work, try to finish it without interruptions. If you have to finish it later, you will lose time picking up where you left off.

Do not postpone important matters that are unpleasant. Jobs rarely get more pleasant by being postponed. Do it now!

Make a habit of finishing the main job of the day…Good-bye ‘Procrastination!’

You know how time management gurus recommend coming up with a to-do list as a way to curb procrastination? My friend came up with this idea: a have-done list. Sure, you can draw up your to-do list (although my friend suggests keeping it to just three items at first, so it won't look so daunting), but then keep a scrap of paper or better yet a notebook handy in order to record the things you HAVE done. It's like a record of accomplishments, so you don't keep feeling like a useless lump of organic material. I tried it, and I have to admit, looking over my have-done list felt better than moaning over my vaguely accusing to-do list.

i would've answered sooner....but i am the queen of procrastination!!! my biggest problem is that i get discouraged by the amount of things i need to do, and that is self-defeating!so i look at tasks and chores as singles- not worrying about others until i complete one. i also make rules & privledges for myself-like no computer until i get the dishes done-& it makes me strive harder to do what needs to be done&also gets me to work faster!of course, i still slip up once in a while, but i am getting better.i hope this is helpful-i must go....the dishes are waiting(oopsie!)

There's no real answer to this except what my favorite social studies teacher once told me, "Just do it -- it is what you need." Really, no one can force you to do something, that's why you're not doing it probably. You need to just do it. Have confidence in your abilities and then just do it! I can't emphazize that enough!

Motivation. If I needed something done, I get to it, like cleaning my room. I set myself for goals, like in writing, to prevent writer's block.

i have the same problem. what sometimes helps is i tell myself "if i do this, then i can do this" like watch a favorite tv show or go see a movie. sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't!
