Seriously, Start going to the lecture programs that are given by the police officers. If he's not there, ask one of the officers about him. Get to know the person behind the uniform., start hanging out when he's off duty, BUT DON'T STALK. Eventually, you'll become acquaintances, and then friends, THEN you may ask to be frisked.

I think striking up a casual conversation would be the best approach. Perhaps you could ask if he'd like to work out together at the local gym sometime...once you're both comfortable you can take it from there.
OR....just dial 9-1-1 and make him come.

If you think that he may like you back, then I would slowly go about approaching him... Don't scare him away if you think that he may be straight... Cherish the friendship, but maybe just ask him if he would be up to going out and getting a few drinks and chat... get to know him a little, feel him out, see what he is like.
