Given that 64=2^x , the find value of x

x=2^6 hence x=6. 2x2x2x2x2x2=64 hence 64=2^6

Question 2
Given that 64^y=2^3y-1, find the value of y.

therefore 4^2y^2=2^3y+1 : hence 2y^2-3y + 1 =

(2y-1) (y-1)
hence y= 1 or 1/2 is this correct.

Your first answer is correct x=6

The second one is solved like this:

64^y = 2^(3y-1)

convert first 64^y with an expression with base 2

64^y=(2^6)^y

by laws of exponents,

2^6y=2^(3y-1)

since they already have common base which is 2, you may now equate the exponents

6y=3y-1

combining like terms, you will get
y=-1/3

Your first answer is correct but not the second. You can easily check your answers by putting them back into each side of the statement and finding that they are not equal. To do the second question, use the hint given in the first. Change 64^y into a power of 2. I also think that on the right hand side the 3y - 1 should have been in brackets.

Follow up.
The reasoning in the next person's answer is correct but NOT the final answer. Also note that you don't really help someone by just giving them the answer, especially a wrong one!

If you make the bases the same then the exponents are equal.

For both problems use 64 = 2^6.

64 = 2^x
2^6 = 2^x
6 = x

64^y = 2^(3y-1)
2^(6y) = 2^(3y-1)
6y = 3y-1
3y = -1
y = -1/3

for question 2 i like to do

64^y => 2^6y = 2^3y+1
then you can just do 6y=3y +1

so y = 1/3

making 64^1/3 = 2 ^ 3(1/3) +1
4=4.. it works

once you get carry of to 40 4/7 x 7/6, you have gotten cancelled out the 7's, and gotten: 40 4/one million x one million/6 that would get you 40 4/6, which equals 7 2/6, that's the comparable element you get carry of, considering 14/40 two = 2/6 the main simplified answer is 7 one million/3, yet confident, you probably did it extraordinary.

yes that answere is correct and i can teach you to check that answere with a calculator.
go into your start menu go to programs, go to accessories, go to calculator, when you see the calculator it will look like a regular calculator go to its menu click on view then click scientific.when you do that you will have more choices.then you can type in 2 then go over to the button on the left that lookslike x^y click on it and then put in the exponant
best of luck on your assignment
