I have a Sony VAIO FS series laptop which is about 6 months old. Two games (Medieval Total War and Oblivion) I have just tried to install will not work and I think it might be my graphics card which is at fault. How do I find out what type of card I have so I can find out if that is the problem?

Right click on the desktop, when the menu pops up, click Properties. When the window opens, click the Settings tab. The info you want is about halfway down, on the left above the resolution slider.

However:

The graphics in a laptop are integrated with the motherboard. If it is the graphics at fault (it probably is), you cannot simply swap out a card. Unfortunately, many of the games on today's market do not support a laptop configuration and should state that on the packaging.
