I know I'm in an orchestra, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking for some really awesome classical music to rock out to. What are your favorite composers/pieces/etc?

If you like things all stirred up, hot and heavy, with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in, try the symphonies of Gustav Mahler, or the tone poems of Richard Strauss.
If you want quiet, introspective, optimistic-Mozart.( to die for)
Cool, logical, good background to help your brain on its way- Johann Sebastian Bach.
Cool colors with weird swirls- Claude Debussy.
For strings only- the string quartets of Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven ( especially the later ones)
the string sextets of Johannes Brahms ( my favs)
the work "Adagio for Strings" by the American composer, Aaron Copland.
there's more stuff out there than you can listen to in a lifetime, so go wild and enjoy yourself!
