I am also Rh-neg, I had one RhoGam shot at 28 weeks, since I was unable to test the fathers blood to find out his type. my child was Rh-neg, so did not need a second shot after birth.
The reason you need a shot after birth of a baby whose rh type is different from yours is because your body can develop antibodies that can affect your future children.
Pregnancy can be a confusing and hearing you have a condition that you do not understand can be scary. Your doctor will be able to explain it so you can understand or you can try your local health department they have people that are able to explain better than I.
I hope that helps.
Good luck !!!!

Ok i know how you feel i am A- my hubby is B+ so i got the shot at around 5 months i think is when it was and then you also get it again like a day after delivery but they give you the shot if either your hubby is + or if it is unknown that way if your blood and babies blood mixes then there are no ill effects both of my kids have turned out + A+ and O+ so I have had the shot a few times and like i said i dont remember if its five months or maybe seven but if you are - then you will probaly get a shot to be safe if you cant get records on his blood but you can always get a type test done on him and know very shortly because most doctors want to make sure the male is negative on disease and request a blood sample on him as well as you so i hope i helped good luck and congrats
Just because you are neg doesnt mean that you will get a shot if your hubby is neg as well then there will most likely be no shot or if you were pos then no shot

ok I have to go through this also. At around 27 weeks you will get a shot called rogam if you are RH positive. Which I am so I recently had to get my shot. The reason they give us the shot is because they don't know the blood type of the baby. So either way they give you the shot. Now the reason for the shot is that if the baby's blood type is different your body will fight against it as if it is a virus in you. This is were the shot comes in to help your body not fight the baby. Now when you deliver they will test the baby's blood. If it is not the same as yours you will need to get a shot again after you deliver. Hope this helps and good luck with everything

I am RH-neg and so are you. You have absolutley nothing to worry about you will get a shot called the Rhogam between 6 and 7 months it's only to prevent u and your baby's blood from mixing which could cause a miscarriage in other pregnancies or other premature issues. Ur baby has his father's blood type and it really doesnt matter what it is. I'm sure you have blood taken if there were any problems you would know im 35 weeks and fine dont worry everything is cool.

what happens is that if you have a negative blood and the father has a possibility to have a positive blood type then that makes your baby have a postive blood type as well. (cause a negative and a positive equals... positive) what happens if you have a baby with a possibility of a positive blood type is that some times the babys blood mixes with your blood, (sometimes before birth but most times it mixes at the time of birth) and your body produces antibodies against your babys blood and will try to kill it. all the rhogam shot does is puts a certain type of antibody in your body that protects your baby if that happens. you can get this shot I think it's at 28 weeks. This is becoming a very common shot to get cause I had to get one, check my answers I asked the same question as you a few weeks ago. I strongly suggest getting the shot because if you don't it could possibly prevent you from getting pregnant again or worse miscarry. but you'll be fine, congrats!

I too am RH-. You'll get the shot @12 weeks I believe and then again @ 28. A good way for your husband to find out his blood type is to donate blood, or i imagine he could just ask his doctor to type it. If your baby is RH+ you will get another shot after delivery. The doctors will type the baby's blood from the umbilical cord. Search Rhogam (which is the brand name of the shot) for more info.
Best Wishes!!!

hi this happened to me I am a- and hubby is 0+
I have had two m/c so I had to have the shot after each one.. my friend is the same and when she had her baby she had the shot straight after and once during her pregnancy .. tell your doctor that you are a- and that your not sure what hubby is..
When I had my m/c Im not sure how they knew but they knew one of the bubs was a +baby so gave me the shot the second they just assumed. if you have the shot and the baby is not + it wont do any damage.
Also your blood and the babies blood remains separate throughout the pregnancy most of the time unless you've had some bleeding.. good luck you will be fine it happens alot..
I was just as worried as you a few months ago but doctors have been aware of this for hundreds of years, so it not a problem like it used to be.
congrats!!!

My blood type is o-. I have had two full term deliveries, and one abortion. During each of my pregnancies I received at least two shots during, and one the day after I delivered and one before the abortion. It does not matter the babies blood type, if you are Rh neg you need to receive the shot during and after to protect yourself, your current pregnancy, and any in the future.

You'll get some shots at 4 months. Once you get the shots, then the baby will be fine & there's nothing to worry about in that regard.
UPDATE: You can't find out if the baby is RH positive until it's born -- at least not without putting your baby in a much greater risk than he/she would be without breaking the amniotic sac.
