I found out I have Strep B virus, I am 21 weeks pregnant. I have two older children and did not have this virus with either of them. Can anyone shed light on the truth about delivering a baby while having this virus? My OB/Gyn doesn't seemed too concerned. But, I am worried. I told my childrens pediatrician and he said the baby should be fine, but they will take all precautions.

It was scary when my wife found out she had strep b and we were concerned for our baby's health. Our son was born 9/3/06 and we totally forgot it was ever a concern. There's no reason to really worry. It's like clockwork -- you get the medicine (you'll be hooked up to all types of IV's), deliver the baby, and that's it. The chances are very very slim for your baby to get Strep B, and very very slim that if he/she DOES get it, that he/she will suffer permanent damage from it. This is 2007, medicines are good at doing their job.

I have 4 kids. I had Group B Strep with 2 of my pregnancies. My OB/GYN gave me antibiotics during the pregnancy and administered a packet of antibiotics via IV during labor. My kids are fine and in elementary school on honor roll now. Don't worry. Everything will be fine.

I had the Strep B with my first son. They had given me antibiotics in the hospital, but clearly they didnt work so he stayed for an extra week getting antibiotics and tests done. He had other problems at birth, not related to the strep b.... they really cant tell how the baby will until he/she is born... hopefully fine, but its always best to prepare for the worst(ex:longer hospital stay).... Good luck and congrats! Try not to worry about it. I know its hard!

I have it too - they just put an antibiotic in your IV before you deliver and then the baby is fine. It doesn't even effect the baby at all. If they didn't give you the antibiotic then your baby could have breathing problems when born., That is why they do the test.
Don't worry - you and the baby will be fine.

It isn't something to really be concerned about. They'll just add some antibiotics to your IV and you'll be set. That's what happened with me. I had two set of penicillin in me (one for the Strep, the other because my water broke way too early). Don't worry about it.

i have been group B + with both of my kids had nothing wrong with me or them and no symptoms you can get a yeast infection easier and when you are in labor you will get two bags of antibiotics like penicillin unless you are allergic but other than that there should be no problems and the antibiotics in labor will protect the baby from having anything wrong with it even if you dont get all two does things should be fine if being positive was a problem your doctors would be more concerned but its nothing to be bothered with so relax

You'll get antibiotics in the hospital, so you should be OK. My wife was told she had it for our second child. Ended up a non-issue since our daughter came via emergency c-section.

Nothing. I had it, and they gave me antibiotics. End of story.
