any degree that you decide to pursue should be based solely on what you enjoy doing. why spend years getting a degree in x, then working in that field to build your reputation, if you don't really ENJOY that type of work?
i have two grandsons. i have stressed to them how important it is to get jobs that they like. i am going to take each of them to their choice of country in either europe or south america after HS because i do not think HS grads know much about what they wish to study. i think all HS grads should see the world a bit, and do little jobs that do not require a degree (so they can see the value of obtaining a degree), before they go to college. sometimes college isn't for a kid anyhow. maybe a trade is better; maybe opening a storefront.
but, international relations is entirely, completely different from journalism. IR is tied more to politics. J is tied more to writing skills.
maybe you should find professionals in each field to tell you how they chose their careers, what they did in them to get where they are today, what they like about them, what they do not like about them, etc., so that you make a good decision.
but i ALWAYS say, and so does paul mccartney: do what you love to do.

I have a degree in Journalims 1977. It was great for several things, gave me balance to do many jobs and can adapt very well with the background of a generalist. Today, a journalism degree is near worthless. I would seek out the other degress for long term growth and development. Newspapers in general are failing and to work at the TV newtorks you need to be a celebrity, or know someone. The days of hard work and being a respected reporter are long gone. Now it is more a bubly personality, or a complete whack job like Bill O'Reilly. Good luck in your career.

The degree that is better is the one you will enjoy more. I majored in English, which everyone told me is impractical, but I'm doing something I love while continuing my education. Can you picture being a journalist in twenty years? Can you picture being an ambassador or negotiator in twenty years? If not, pick something else. Or if you prefer both strongly, double major or major in one, minor in the other. Good luck.

Well that really depends on what you plan on doing with your life. If you plan on being a lifetime camper and get stuck out on the tundra with no food and only a ravenous bear for company, I can honestly tell you they'd be equally useless... unless you plan to use them for kindling.
