Remove the rabbit from the cage, and use a hose to clean the worst of the mess off outside. Then put the cage into your utility sink and scrub with soap and water. Bleach can't hurt either. Make sure the cage dries completely before putting clean hay inside.

Do you have the cage that is a close wire mesh on the bottom, with a pull out tray underneath? If so, you can line the tray with newspaper. It makes cleaning up easier.

As to the rabbit's bottom, cleaning it with gentle baby soap and warm water is acceptable. Make sure you scrub enough to clean the fecal matter off the fur. And dry it completely afterwards. A diffuser dryer set on low and warm might be best.

Go back to feeding the rabbit it's proper recommended food. And instead of letting your son feed it fresh greens, buy the dried treats, coloured and shaped into vegetable forms that they sell at pet stores. Also, I would seriously consider getting the rabbit some rabbit pellets. This is dried food specially formulated for rabbits, and more nutritious than hay and dried food carrots.

Hi, I've got a rabbit, who also gets the poo's from time to time. My guess is that you've fed him greens a bit too soon and his tummy is having trouble digesting it.
The best thing to do is to give the rabbit the food that it was eating at the pet shop for a few months. Then slowly introduce fruit and veg, that's what it says in my rabbit book anyway.
He'll be fine. The best thing to clean him bum with is luke warm soapy water. Dry him off afterwards and just let him lay quiet in some straw. He'll be find after a few days, my rabbit is. Oh, and if he's got matted fur around the bum area carefully cut it with scissors, because apparently that can attract flies.
Hope this helps.

Clean its bottom with luke warm water and cotton wool... if u dont clean it it could get fly blown (flys lay eggs in rabbit... hatch n eat rabbit inside out) dont give large amounts of greens as it does upset them.. hay is better they need lots of hay.. some rabbit poo can seem slightly loose, its not always a prob because they eat those ones to get more nutrients.. they dont eat the hard pellet ones.. dont give any more greens for a while see how rabbit is after 24hrs if still not good take it to the vet rabbits go down hill very quickly.. good luck hope bunnie is ok..

Firstly, rabbits diets should mainly consist of a good quality hay, such as timothy or meadow hay and grass (this should make up 3/4 of its diet). A small handfull of single pellet food should be given (not the multi-coloured different russell rabbit type rubbish). Any fresh fruit or veg should be given as a treat in very small amounts, as it can cause an upset tummy. Any greens such as brocolli, cabbage etc, only a few times a week and a very small amount at that. With regards to keeping your bunny's bottom clean, get someone else to hold him, with his bottom facing you and gently clean the poo off with damp cotton wool. It is very important that you clean him, otherwise he could get flystrike. Rabbits eat their faeces the first time round, so the soft faeces are eaten and then harder more formed faeces are produced and this is the end result. Do not give the rabbit any more veg and only hay and a small amount of single pellet food, see how he goes, and if no improvement, seek veterinary attention. Good luck.

Bring your rabbit to a rabbit vet immediately. Diarrhea is very dangerous for rabbits. You can go to www.rabbit.org for a list of good rabbit vets in whatever area you are in. 8 weeks is a little young to begin introducing greens, and broccoli probably isn't a great one to start with. As for cleaning it's bottom, you might not want to mess around down there until the vet has a chance to look and make sure there's no further damage. Please be careful, as little children can be rough with rabbits and they are very fragile animals.

Make sure that your rabbit has plenty of fresh water to drink, and has a clean cage. Also, take it to the vets, they can give it some antibiotics and any injections it may need to get better. Also, if you want to wipe its bum then just get some rabbit wipes from your local pet shop and wipe it up.... disgusting i no but wiping it will stop the diaorea from getting any worse. Just make sure that you take it to the vets and get it checked out! x

It would be best to get your rabbit to see a vet as they can deteriorate quite rapidly. Try and get in today as an emergency or seek advice with a vet consultant. Good luck

no you dont need to take it to a vet even though he may not charge you it will be a waste of time. my rabbits get diarrhoea quite often even though they eat mainly dried food. there is no need to worry this will clear up in a day or so. just stick to carrots until he gets bigger. i use baby wipes to clean their bottoms or damp kitchen roll. if you fell daring a warm shower with baby shampoo to wash him with will clean him up nicely.

Take it to the vet straight away.It could have 'wet tai;' whioch can be faital. It could also just be an upset stomach in which a vet can give tables to sort.

Good Luck
