I used to enjoy NBA basketball and had a real passion for the sport. But in recent years, the NBA has been taken over by thugs. Over 40% of NBA players have criminal records ranging from drugs to physical abuse. The role models are gone and the sport has less and less attendance by the common people.

Is it time to disband the NBA as a professional sport?

To the guy who wants the claim backed up....

The NBA is rapidly turning into a national criminals' association: A whopping 40 percent of NBA players have police records, a bombshell new book charges.

The book by investigative reporter Jeff Benedict, "Out of Bounds: Inside the NBA's Culture of Rape, Violence & Crime" isn't supposed to hit bookstores until later this week, but The Post located a copy that went on sale earlier.

In it, Benedict finds that 40 percent of the American players in the NBA during the 2001-02 season had police records involving a serious crime. "It's a situation that is out of control and absolutely demands close scrutiny," Benedict writes.

The book says that though most player incidents involve crimes against women, documents show "police officers are their second most common group of victims."

Not even close, basketball is still a insanely popular sport that is the dream of millions of children all around the world. Take that away the crime rates will rise even more. Any sport that has the market to pay athletes over 10 million a year will continue for years to come. I would also have to disagree with the lack of role models. Many of the top players contribute a lot to society; two worthy of mention is Yao Ming and Dwyane Wade. Many of the players with criminal records are not the stars and therefore are not very high on the publicity scene. The NBA is still a great organization and a strong representative for a respectable sport.

No. Just watch the sport for the love of the game itself and dont get into all the off-court drama that ensues. The NBA has definitely gotten worse off of the court, but on the court, the talent is still there and the games are still fun to watch.

The real problem is the people, not the NBA. Just clean house and start over.

Hell No! There are so many teams and major fans. We just need better or newer players, and those 'bad' players should be kicked off the team. However, there should be no cheerleaders!
