I was wondering, because someone is sending me a money order and I wanted to know if I could deposit it into my checking account?

Yes, generally you can deposit money orders into a checking account. There is a great deal of fraud connected with money orders though and the bank might refuse you unless you have had an account with them for a while and have an average balance equal to or greater than the money order amount. If your friend sends a bank money order rather than one purchased at a convenience store, the chances of acceptance are greater. Reason is - lots of money orders are stolen and there is greater security around bank money orders.

Yes, a money order is as good as cash, but with a number to cancel it if it gets lost. The bank should not even hold the funds like they do with checks (although some will).

yes you can but be very careful unless its someone you trust because there is a scam going on with fake money orders. they well send you a m.o. and have you deposit it and then send them money and then the m.o. turns out to be no good.

yeah, you can deposit a money order, I've done it before, just deposit it like you would a check.

You, you absolutely can, especially if the money order is made out to you and it is your checking account. handle it like any other check made out to you.
