what domestic issues or freign policies did jefferson have to deal with that got in the way of his principles but were good for the nation? did these decisions leave a negative or positive legacy for him?

You should accomplish your own homework.

To give you guidance though, you would have to know what Jefferson's principles were. Which can be seen in his argument with Hamilton. Once you figure that out, look at some of the major actions he was involved in.

Jefferson was morally opposed to slavery yet had slaves. To me that was his one failing that he didn't stop it with the Conception of our Country.
