distributive property is exactly what it sounds like... to distribute a variable or number to all the variables INSIDE the parenthesis. For example, 3(X+Y) Is saying 3 times X plus 3 times Y. Or 3X+3Y. They are the exact same statement. 3(X+Y)=3X+3Y

The distributive property means that when you multiply the expression (B+C) by A, it's the same as multiplying A times B and adding that to A times C. This doesn't directly help you solve the example problem. The key to the example is combining like elements. You have to combine all the X elements and all the whole numbers. You combine the 2x with the -x to make 2x-x which equals x. Then combine 3 with -1 to make 2. Thus the answer x+2.

well simplifying that expression isnt distributive..
2x + 3 - x - 1
all it is, is combining like terms ... u take the x's and u take 1x away from 2x to make x... then u take 3 - 1 because they are like terms.
this ends up at x +2

for the distributive property..
a(b+c)=ab+ac

this shows whenever u have a like term on the same side of the equation then u can distribute it out

ex. 4x^2 +2x= 1
or 2x(2x + 1) = 1

Distrivutive Property

Multiplication distributes ofer addition

a(b + c) = ab + ac

Multiplication distributes ofer subtraction

a(b - c) = ab - bc

The example given really doesn't look like it's using the distributive property at all.

Take the -5 and multiply each and every thing interior of it with it. so which you're problem is: -5(a million-3m + n) and you're taking the -5 and cases it with the a million to get -5, then with the three to get +15m -5 simply by fact the damaging sign will substitute the different damaging sign to a favorable one. so your answer is: -5 + 15m - 5n
