My sinuses have been acting up for months but now I have a sinus infection. I have a drainage pocket on the left side of my face by my ear. It is really painful and annoying. Does anyone have any ideas besides medication to relieve my pain? Please Help!! :)

Well you need to see your doctor about this. It is dangerous to take any medication during pregnancy and it is dangerous to have an infection during pregnancy.

At Bath Junkie they have this 'aromaremedy' that you smell and it seriously relieves any headache or sinus pain. They have one for headaches and one for sinuses. It's only $3 and it really, really works. If you don't want to do that just yet then try breathing in as much steam as you can when you or others are taking a shower It helps loosen all the mucus and stuff so it can drain out easily. There is also a nasal spray you can get, it's just saline so you can use as much as you want and it won't hurt you or the baby at all. If it really is an infection though, antibiotics are going to be what takes care of it. Hope this helps!

Oh, that sucks! I had the same problems during my pregnancy. It got so bad that I couldn't breathe when I laid down! Besides taking Tylenol and Sudafed, and using a nasal spray (all of which are safe), I found that having a humidifier on all the time helped; filling a bowl with steamy water and putting my head over it with a towel over my head helped; and taking steamy showers helped.

About the pain by your ear, there are drainage canals that go from your ear to your throat, and they can get clogged (or in my case be too small), and get painful. To help them drain, put your finger on the soft spot right under your ear and behind your jaw joint. Press down gently and go down diagonally to your throat. You'll probably feel stuff going into your throat, and it will most likely be painful, but it does help drain those canals. (This is what my doctor told me to do since my canals get clogged all the time since they're small.)

Lastly, if you have a sinus infection, go to your doctor if you haven't already to make sure it's not a bacterial infection. If it is, you'll need to take antibiotics since your immune system is suppressed right now from the pregnancy, and the infection can get a lot worse if not treated. Most antibiotics are completely safe for pregnancy, so take them if you need to, and finish *all* of them or else the infection could return and be worse.

Hope this helps!

I assume you're drinking at least 4 liters of liquid every day to flush it out and I am sure you've already tried inhaling the steam from salt water.

You could applying some Vicks or another medicated cream right around your sinuses and then try a warm compress over top to see if it will get the bloakage moving, but it might really make your eyes water.

Some massage therapists will do work on your face and neck to see it they can stimulate the muscles around your sinuses to let go.

I think you're wise to try and work this out without medication while you're pregnant. Good luck.

Try a combo of Tylenol Sinus and a sinus wash. You have to be able to breathe from at least one nostril, or it goes into your sinuses and hurts like hell, but it's non-medicated and safe during pregnancy. You can buy it OTC at any pharmacy. It feels REALLY disgusting while you're doing it, but it really helps a lot. I think the one I used when I had a sinus infection said to do it twice a day. The package comes with a bottle and saline mix, and only cost around $10-12. Good luck with that! And Baby, too!

Saline drops or spray up your nose. Gargle with salt water

Also try putting hydrogen peroxide diluted 50/50 with hot water (to make it body temperature) in your ears. Lay down on your side, but in a few drops and leave for as long as you can stand it or 2-3 minutes. Then do the other side. Many times the infection can hide in your ear canal. Get the hydrogen peroxide in BROWN bottles that is pure. The stuff in white bottles contains stabalizers to prevent the light from breaking it down. The stabalizers are generally toxic (mind you only in large doses)

Steam should help too.

Also don't forget nice hot "tea". Whatever you like lemon, ginger, peppermint, real tea. Etc.

And don't forget ascorbic acid (the safe form of Vitamin C). Good for infections, helps prevent PROM and premature birth, may protect against SIDS and is all around good for you.

Sorry about that....pregnancy causes women's nasal passages to swell up something horrible. I hate to say it, but it will probably get worse.

1. Use saline nasal spray.
2. Put a humidifier in your bedroom.
3. Talk to your doc to see if you are allowed to take Mucinex (guaifenesin). It will thin out the secretions so they can get out.
4. Don't take benadryl or sudafed. They dry up everything in your head, then it all gets stuck in there.
5. Ask your doc if you can use a nasal decongestant spray just once or twice, so shrink your nasal swelling for just long enough for the mucus to get out. In general those medicated drops cause more problems than they help, but if you take mucinex, then wait about 8 hours, a spray of the medicated drops can really open things up.
6. Your doc can give you antibiotics for a potential infection. Certain anti-b's are safe for unborn babies. I myself had to take them.

Good luck!

sometimes steam can help. I would boil a pan of water and after it has started to boil then take it off the heat. put some vapor rub liquid into the water then get a towel and put it on your head and cover the pan with towel and face. Inhale the steam for about 5 to 10 minutes. I have found that works well. Hope that helps and congrats on baby

Try plain benadryll. It will help start it for just at bedtime. If it helps then do it throughout the day follow directions from bottle. And yes it is safe for you to take it is class B and I have takin it during my pregnancy.

you can take benadryl or sudafed while preggers, but if you're wanting to do something without meds i don't really know of anything besides waiting it out, resting, and drinking lots of water to help the drainage.
