If you are in the UK, back boilers were banned as of 1st April 2005. You can no longer buy them and a CORGI engineer cannot install one that you purchased before the ban came into effect.
There is an exemption procedure (long winded and approval is not always given) if you live a terraced house or flat, other than that, you have no choice but to have another type of boiler.
Sorry

Yep - Plenty of choice on the market - Wait a few weeks till the weather breaks - as you will be without heating for a day or two. Note the size of your chimney breast and the hearth and the details on your baxi. Most showrooms will be able to tell you the size of the void behind the appliance before anything is moved as the old baxis were so popular and houses in the 40's 50's and 60's were built to accomodate them.
Take these to the showrooms and check out some of the styles you like and negociate the best deal - you can buy direct from manufacturers once you know the kit you like/need or from your CORGI (Gas Domestic Heating Appliance Installer*) fitter. Make sure you include the anual maintenance of the appliance as part of the deal - at least for the first few years - if he installed it and is also doing the maintenance on it -you will get a better job and not have some bozo turn up in the future!!!
NOTE
* there are various different CORGI certs - make sure the fitter has the correct one to do all the work you need.
Its as easy as that

hi if the boiler is in good working order leave it has it is if looked after these boilers last for years. look at the data badge on the boiler to find out what model it is then go to baxi website or local plumb centre and get a baxi fire manual. there are various different fire fronts you can get the better ones are around 500 pounds just match your model number to the fire. the boilers themselves are no longer being fitted due to current regulations.

Depending on the model if you change the boiler then you also have to change the fire.

You can fit it yourself but then can't use it without getting a Corgi registered engineer to sign it off as safe! Something the gas board don't like telling you!!!!

You can do if you know what you are doing. You have to drain the whole system down first, then you have to disconnect the gas to the burner.
