It depends upon the areas you want to major in for each of these degrees and any deficiencies you may have to make up here and there.

Undergrad- usually 4 years

Masters- anywhere from 1 year to 3 years (unless you go part time or choose to do a professional degree such as law degree, medical school, MBA; then it is a minimum of 3 years to usually 5 years.)

PhD-depends upon your area of study and how prepared you are for the program. I would say a minimum of 2-3 years, if you have your foreign language requirements out of the way once you begin and are actively working on your dissertation while in school. But depending upon the program and how diligent you are, this could take a number of years. I have heard of some people taking seven or more years.

1. An Associates Degree is usually 2 years and is usually completed at a Community College but can be obtained elsewhere.

2. A Bachelor's Degree is usually 4 years and is completed at a private or public college or university. You can major in things such as History, English, and other humanities areas. Here, you can also choose to major in more specialized/technical things such as nursing which require taking state exams to become certified. so if you did that in Nursing, you would have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and you passed the boards, you would become certified as a Registered Nurse. But... you can also get only a 2 year Associates degree in Nursing and become a registered nurse that way. It gets confusing and all depends on the program and the school. There are many RNs out there with only associate degrees from a community college. Doesn't make them any less better a nurse than the next guy, though.

3. A Master's Degree is usually around 2 to 3 years depending on the program and how many credits are required to complete the degree. Also, some people choose to work full-time jobs while getting their Master's Degree so they spread it out over a longer period of time because they take only 1 class at a time. When a person goes for a Master's Degree we usually say that they are going to "Graduate School."

4. Doctorate programs such as PHD, PsyD (there are many, many others) - are usually completed after the person obtains the Master's Degree although some people go right from the Bachelor's Degree into a Doctorate program. The length of study for a doctorate depends on the program.

5. There are other types of degrees such as medical degrees that people such as medical doctors, dentists, vets, etc. have. These require more years of schooling and residency where the person is on the job but still a student.

6. To add to that, there are still other kinds of degrees that one can obtain at business and trade schools.

You need to first focus on WHAT area of work/study interests you and then decide what level of schooling it would take to get you into that field. Talk to your guidance counselor if you are in high school. Make an appointment.

This whole career thing can be very stressing. People who find the right careers for themselves are very fortunate in my opinion. Many of us "adults" still have no idea as to what we want to do!!! Leave your options open and don't rush into anything. Maybe take a few an interest tests which should be offered by your guidance counselor. If you are not in high school, check your phone book for career counselors.

Undergrad is generally 4 years. If youre dedicated you can do it in three. Grad school is generally another 4 years, but there are some two year programs, and again, if youre dedicated you can do it in three. Masters programs are graduate programs. Generally after your bachelors you would get a masters degree and that takes 2-4 years. Phd takes about 2 years.

You can go to medical school right after college. This will take 4 years for the degree and then some more time to finish up your residency.

You can go to law school right after college and this takes three years for most people.
