I have a big computer problem and I think I may need to update my drivers. But the hard drive is refurbished. If I install updates that are already on there, will that destroy the computer??

Nothing you need to fear about. Normally it'll overwrite the older file, if the file on your pc is newer, it'll prompt you to keep it, i suggest you do. In an event something goes wrong, you can roll back the driver.

The new drivers will only install over top of the existing drivers.

They will not install a second set because there is only one drive controller.

Also, the "refurbished" status of the drive won't make any difference to the drivers. The drivers talk to the "chip" or "controller" that is usually on the system board. That chip talks to the drives and is pretty generic.

In most cases with problems with drives, it isn't the drivers, it is either the drive or the controller.

If the driver is the same it will replace it. The only likely case where it would "destroy" anything is if the new driver is a beta and has severe conflict. In most cases you can even roll-back to previously installed drivers.

Once I was updating my bios and I updated it with my current driver it told me it was unneeded but if you did and went through with it nothing will probably happen

not at all, sometime defending on the update will tell you that you already have the latest version.
