American. I'm from UK and, like me, a survey said that about 92% of people from the UK don't concider themselves "European". We KNOw that we are, but don't concider ourselves part of that entity. We align ourselves to AMerica to make "The western world"

English first, then the British (YES there is a differance), then I would go for the Commonwealth countires, like New Zealand, Australian, Canadians, South Africans. Then Western Europeans, only after that would I say Americans.

It depends. You are talking to an American-born woman who is of British and Puerto Rican descent. I love speaking Spanish. I adore my Puerto Rican customs, even though they are now American as well. I love my British extended family, and I love my Puerto Rican one as well. But think about it. America is a true melting pot. Not much of what is American ever began here. It was brought by the many different cultures when immigrants began a life here.

How can one ask an Englishman as to whether one likes the acquaintance of a person from across the water without doubting the fact that an Englishman knows his best place and his identity as a 'true Brit' when with his English brethren in this green and pleasant land!

It depends on where you live.........
I am an American living abroad in Bangladesh. I know both British people, and other Americans here. Generally, foreigners who live abroad (especially in developing countries) are ugly. They generally only want to associate with people of their economic status. They come here as nobody's from their origin country, and take on the heirs of kings and queens abroad. Of course there are some exceptions.
In short, I guess I would say I'm closer to Americans because we share the same culture, the same pronunciation!, and the same history.

European, and happy to be thought of as such. The Europeans like us more than people give them credit for.
