Okay so a lot of sites say that it is wrong to keep a tortoise in a tank or vivarium? Well i have a 2 year old Hermanns tortoise. She has been living quite happily in an old fish tank. It is well ventilated and has a good strong lid with UVB Flourecent strip light. A heat mat, a background so she won't be stressed and all the other necessities needed. I have also seen Hermann's kept in similar enclosures like this in good pet shops. As long as you have all the right equiptment I think it would be safer and cheaper to keep your tortoise in an enclousure like this.
Hope you have fun with your new pal! :]

Hermann hatchlings can go straight into a table. If you make a large ish one, mine is 4ft x 2ft, you can put in a partition so he/she won't get lost in it. If you have a big one you won't have to build a bigger table for some time. My table is made with a box that sits on top, which can be removed, all made from MDF. That, with the nails/screws, and water-based varnish, all came to around £60, then all you need to add are the lights and substrate etc. so there's no need for a viv...ever! (i know someone who made a table for under £15, so these are alot cheaper than vivs anyway.) Hope this helps!

First of all, make sure you get a locally bred Tortoise, not one bought via the web or through a garden centre, avoid all imported torts(check their paperwork first) A tortoise table should be fine. Our 2 young Hermanns have flourished in it,do NOT keep them in a viv or they will suffer.

My advice is to get a e book on the care and maintenance of the speces and ~study it~. additionally, sooner or later, undergo in strategies that reptiles do no longer desire "acquaintances" incredibly in case you don't comprehend what to do in the event that they finally end up breeding with their "acquaintances". If this have been published in the dogs area, you would be blasted as a outdoor breeder... too undesirable there's no longer sufficient human beings right here in the reptile area who seem to take this situation heavily. in case you won't be in a position to do the study on the animal until eventually now procuring it, you do not have any employer possessing and incredibly installation a project in which you're able to in all threat breed.

Babies are usually better off in smaller, more easily controlled situations, like a tank or smaller tub.
This allows you to offer a smaller-grained substrate, better control over temps and humidity, harder to get lost and possibly trapped, etc. Think of it as a nursery set-up.

as far as i know it will be ok in a table but it must have infra red and daylight all the time basically for life apart from in the summer when you put it out on a hot day.
