Do your hair like a latina and wear latina clothes. But don't ever try to be someone your not. If you like to wear more American clothes, go for it. I'm black, cuban, and italian and I wear whatever I feel like wearing.

If you really want to change a bit try looking up famous Latinas and copying their image (hair styles and make up would be the best place to start), maybe with your own twist? I found a link below to maybe get you started?

It's true that you should be yourself, but if you are half Latina then why shouldn't you be allowed to express that half of yourself? Like you say, it's nice to have a change sometimes, so why can't you look Latina one day, American another and a mix on another?

I have often been asked if I have Spanish blood, I don't, and I can only list the days and months in Spanish! Although there is Italian in the family, grandparents or great-grandparents I believe. So I have the opposite "problem" to you, as it were. Not that I'm complaining!

So long as you stay true to yourself then you can translate your look any way you want to.

Be confident with yourself and go have some fun!

ps, there is nothing wrong with wanting to look more Latina, no matter what anyone else says, particularly as it *is* part of you. It's no different to wanting to go Goth, Emo, Punk, Country, whatever! Have fun experimenting and create your own look that you feel happy with. That's what being unique is about :)

Sometimes there is a benefit to not looking Spanish - you can eavesdrop on people who speak to each other in Spanish, not knowing you can understand them.

It also helps kill the stereotypes - that everyone who is Hispanic looks a certain way.

I'd think about the change carefully... there might be advantages in the way you look right now.

There will always be someone who thinks you don't look latina. Remember, that Latin Americans come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. There are Latinos that are black, brown-skin, have Asian influences, have Arabic influences, are blond with blue eyes, etc. but in the end they are all Latinos. If you want people to know you are Latino just tell them you are. I would like to know what you mean about looking Latina. Do you want to look like a chola gangster girl?? Do you want to look like a peasant Mexican girl? Do you want to look like a Tango Argentian dancer? Just be yourself. If you're a jeans-and-tshirt girl" wear jeans and a t-shirt, if you're a "mini-skirt" girl wear mini-skirts. Don't try to change yourself to please other people so that they can put you into a nice little box. That's dumb! Just be yourself.

I have the same problem only in reverse, I'm Puerto Rican but I look black. My answer to you is this: You shouldn't change your looks just to please others as long as you know what your are (which is part of the human race) that's all that matters.......once they get to know you they'll know you speak spanish and that you are a true Latina regardless of your looks.

Linda, do not worry about being Latina, ok?

Because no matter if you put red food colouring or blue food colouring in a glass of water, inside that glass is still water

Besides, Latina Americans are great too! :)

send me a pic

cheers

Don't try to be something or someone just be yourself. Just because others don't acknowledge your ethnicity doens't mean you have to prove anything. You're latina if they don't think you are and you're latina if they do think you are. Be comfortable being you, not being this other person who wants to prove something.
