The box of Norton 2007 is probably just Norton Anti-Virus 2007, and is not a complete replacement for Norton Internet Security Suite. You have two choices.... Take the Norton 2007 back to the store and exchange it for Norton Internet Security Suite and pay a little more for the added product. Or, uninstall Norton Internet Security Suite, and Install Norton Anti-Virus 2007. You'll be losing the Firewall product that is part of Norton Internet Security Suite, however, if you do so. Installing just the Norton 2007 Anti-Virus without the rest of the suite could still bring you expiration notices that will drive you nuts and possibly cause other complications because it's not a full replacement for the product that is expiring.
The previous response is incorrect about installing early. Installing ahead of expiration does not lose you any time on your remaining subscription: If I install a new prodeuct one month before it expires, I'll get 13 months worth of use. Norton/Symantec policy does not rob you of subscription time.

on the last day of your free trial load Norton 2007 it will overwrite the existing files and your yearof updates will start from the date of installation. If running Vista, Microsoft warn that Norton 2007 is not compatable and must be removed before Vista is installed.

You can try putting the product key with the purchased norton into the program already installed. There should be an option in norton to allow you to put in a full product key.

Use the Boxed version BUT NOT UNTIL YOUR FREE VERSION HAS NEARLY EXPIRED, - the reason is that it runs 1 year from the date you install so installing early loses you a couple of weeks free cover.
Its easy to do, just insert disc, and follow onscreen instructrions. Use default settings until you happy to start altering things when you've got more experience with it.
Next year don't buy a complete new set, buy an upgrade from Amazon.com., - its cheaper that way.

My sugestion is to go to add and remove programs from the control panel and remove the old version. Then install the newone using your cd.
But, you can also just put in the cd and it should automatically upgrade your old one, i just personally like to remove the old one myself first. No that I use norton for antivirus system, I use AVG which is free and ZoneAlarms pro firewall.
Good luck.

My advice:
Get rid of Norton as soon as possible. It is the worst antivirus available. You pay a lot and the only thing that actually does is tell you that you are doomed and it cant do any thing about it.
get avg free edition. its way better. Go to ebay and sell your norton.
Regards
