Oshô is the Japanese reading of the Chinese he shang (和尚), meaning high-ranking Buddhist monk or highly virtuous Buddhist monk. It is also a respectful designation for Buddhist monks in general and may be used with the suffix -san. It is originally derived from the Sanskrit upadhyaya, meaning 'master' in the sense of 'teacher.'
The reading of the two characters making up the word are actually pronounced oshô only in the Zen and Pure Land sects. For example, it is read kashô in the Tendai sect and wajô in the Shingon sect.
Osho is the name accepted by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh

My dear friend its good that you have asked this coz most of speak without knowing anything about osho.Firstly forget about osho as whoever you know see him just like your grand father i mean to say to see him just like a normal humans we meet respect him as you respect elders. You should be aware that osho attained enlightenment when he was 21,enlightenment is nothing but uniting with the existence once it happens all your dualities will cease to exist because you become the soul which is everything. Birth and death is only for your body not for your soul after your death your soul moves to another body so literally there is no death or birth to soul that is the reason why we are part of the almighty which is ever present you'll realize and live as this after enlightenment The above statement is given by his disciples who know what he is for others he just remained an old fool which he cared the least.His greatness is beyond words so i just live with him never trying to expect anything from him
