Basic...but long. I want to knock this one out for you.

1) Pick a date. One that doesn't conflict with a lot of people's schedules. One that is conveinant for the new family, too!

2) Invitations. Have them match the theme of the shower or baby's nursery decor. People will refer to these when choosing a gift (if there are giraffes on the invite they will pick the stuffed giraffe over the stuffed frog!!)

3) ENFORCE RSVP!! If everyone hasn't responded to RSVP...start giving them a call. Knowing how many people are really attending helps you choose games and serve the correct amount of refreshments!!

4) Decorations:
DIAPER CAKE (Diaper Cakes by Becca!!)
Streamers
Lawn Sign (if a lot of people don't know the location)
Balloons!
Background Music (burn a cd with lullabyes, songs about kids, classical music)

5) Games. Silly mixed with sentimental is nice! I have a site on my webpage dedicated to some sentimental games (and a scavenger hunt-type game, too.....which is a great one if there are a lot of guests who can't attend due to distance or prior-commitments but who want to contribute anyway!!) http://www.diapercakesbybecca.com/ShowerActivities

6) Food. The best time for a baby shower, in my opinion is around 2:00pm. Serve punch, finger sandwiches, chips and dip, veggies and dip, fruits, coffee and water! Don't forget dessert. You could do cake, cookies, pie, ice cream, mousse....something sweet!!

7) Registry. If the mom has not registered you may want to do it for her (espeically if it is a surprise). It is sometimes considered bad taste to put where mom is registered in the invitation. People will contact the hostess if they want to know where mom is registered.....

8) Make the party a poignant celebration of the new little one. Balance silliness with sweetness. As the hostess your job is to keep conversations going and to introduce people who might not know each other.

I hope this helped!!

Hooded towels & wash cloths, onsies (range of sizes 3,6,9 months), gowns (a must for newborns, since diapers are constantly being changed), a multi-stage bathtub, diapers (disposable & cloth, cloth are good to use as burp cloths), sleepers (again a range in sizes), bottles (even if the baby is breastfed, you will need these for water & juice), thermal (waffle-weave look) receiving blankets, bibs, baby monitor, bouncy seat (especially the kind that has vibration, very soothing), pacifiers, outlet plug stoppers, diaper bag (one that will last a while & is big enough to carry all you need without being too big), plastic dirty diaper bags, nasal aspirator, mylecon drops, children's liquid tylenol, desitin (for diaper rash), bath thermometer, ipecac syrup (for accidental poisons-probably won't need but good to have on hand), a good ear-model thermometer, baby grooming kit (has brush, nail clippers, etc), cetaphil lotion (it's like a very gentle baby wash, because some babies are allergic to other baby washes), dreft, hangers for baby clothes. This is a general list of items that are great to put on a baby registry that are not too expensive but very useful. If you want to add some more expensive useful items to a baby registry, I would suggest a stroller/car seat combo, high chair & a pack & play (pack & plays are also good to use if you travel a lot for baby to sleep in, especially at motels because you don't know what kind of germs are on other baby beds). Hope this helps!!

Diapers, all different sizes. Wipes, shampoo, soaps, lotions.(register for the sensitive kinds b/c somebabies have extremely sensitive skin or eczema and this stuff can be irritating) A baby bath to do it all in. Onsies, socks, again different sizes this way you won't have all newborn or really small sizes that baby outgrows so fast. Lots of sleepers are nice to have too. Don't forget burp cloths, lots of spit up. There are sooo many more things a baby needs and wants that make things more convenient. Hope you get lots of ideas here, many different opinions can help.

I have a 2yr old and am 37 wks pregnant. I had 2 baby showers with my son and 2 years later I still have a shelf full of lotions, powders, shampoo and that sort of stuff. These Items are great. But, some of the ones I used the most are:

-Diapers (any size from 1 up) They grow out of newborn quick,
-Wipes,
-Boudreaux's Butt Paste (cleared up a rash better than any other cream!),
-Tylenol & Mylicon (saves you a trip to the store at 3 a.m.)
-Cloth diapers (GREAT burp rags),
-Baby detergent (Dreft or Baby All),
-Stain remover (Dreft),
-White Onsies,
-Socks (they always loose at least one!),
-Gowns (even for the boys, makes changing at 3 a.m. easier!)
-Baby cd's (my son still loves music! It helps him sleep too.)
-Children's books (I asked my guest for a book instead of a card)
-Baby Juice, Food, Cereal and Snacks (you will need them before you know it)
-Take N' Toss plates, cups, bowls, and flatware.
-Bottles and Pacifiers are great but remember the little one may be picky and not like certain ones! I still have alot that have not been used!
-GIFT CARDS! The ultiminte gift. They can be used for dipers, formula, clothes, or any of the big stuff that still need to be purchased.
