I bought a satellite receiver of ebay, The guy had 69 feedback and 100% positive, He didn't take paypal so I sent a postal order, a week passed nothing, so I went to email him, I noticed he had then received 2 negs, I asked him where my item was he said he was waiting on a postal order to clear! I said its not a cheque! He said he paid it into his bank,

Anyway 3 weeks later still nothing but every excuse under the sun. I mean why do sellers suddenly go bad? Also short of taking him to court is there anything I can do?

Contact ebay and explain what has happened. Explain you have emails from the seller also which verifies he did receive your payment but you still don't have the goods and see what they come up with. Good luck and hope you get it sorted without being out of pocket.

He was probably bad in the first place. There is way for people to make it appear that they have lots of positive feedback! I suggest you get in contact with ebay to complain!! However before doing so did you obtain a proof of posting receipt from the post office when you posted the postal order? because without that I don't think ebay can do much because the seller could easily claim that he did not receive the postal order if ebay were to investigate. This is why I only pay with paypal for expensive goods - that way if you are scammed PayPal will refund the money (up to a certain amount).

My husband bought a Nintendo Wii on E-bay before Christmas as a present for me, the person he bought it from had 100% positive feedback and like yours didn't except Paypal. In order to get it quickly he did a bank transfer and afterwards received an e-mail from E-bay telling him not to pass any payment to this E-bayer as it is a fradulent account - too late he'd already sent £250 to this E-bayer and we still haven't got our money back. The only thing we could do was to contact the Police and this has now been going on since Dec 27th and we still have no money back and we will probably never get it back. Apparently what had happened is that someone had responded to an E-bay e-mail (which wasn't actually sent by E-bay) asking them to update their account and payment details, this person clicked on the link within the e-mail and then the person who had sent the e-mail had direct access to this person's E-bay account and could then start selling stuff using this person's account!! The morale of the story is NEVER buy anything expensive from an E-bayer that doesn't except Paypal - we've learnt the lesson the hard way.

Some sellers actually use your money to buy the item (drop shipping businesses) then ship it to you.

If the seller has more than 1 or two items listed at a time, there is a strong chance they are a drop shipping middle man. The collect your money then order item from wholesaler then send it to you.

Always buy from paypal approved sellers and always use paypal.

This page link below describes the steps to take if you don't receive your item from the seller or they send you an item that's significantly different to that described in the listing. If the seller doesn't respond to your emails or calls, please file a dispute (the seller can respond even if they are no longer a registered member). If you can't resolve the issue via the online dispute process, you can escalate the dispute to a claim. You can't make a claim unless you first file a dispute, as described below.

You do need to be wary of non Paypal sellers and as a genreal rule, dont do business unless they have a paypal account. I nearly got scammed by someone who was selling tickets to a soccer game and wanted to me to send him a cash advance of £1000 through Western Union. I rang Western Union and they advised me not to proceed with the transaction as there is a lot of fraud on Ebay.
Lesson learnt - only buy through Paypal for a peace of mind.

Congradulations. You have been initiated into ebay.

Since you paid by postal order there is very little you can do. Contact ebay for the buyer protection program and if you can prove it they might try and get some of the money back but it is unlikely.
