please don't drydock your turtle like in answer 1. that only works for specific diseases. Find out if your turtle is an aquatic turtle or a land turtle, if i knew more of what your turtle looked like I could tell you. As for the struggling to get out of the water, if its at the edge of the tank its not so much struggling as it is seeing you the "food bringer" and going spastic. Its a common personality trait among turtles. They beg...alot. And they don't always judge distances well or care that they arn't getting anywhere when swimming into the glass. I have 3 aquatic turtles in the tank in my room, two don't care if i live or die as long as the food gets there. The third swims into the glass, giving the appearance of struggling to get out, everytime i walk by the tank.

If your turtle is struggling to get onto a rock or a basking area, you might have a more serious issue. But take note, most aquatic turtles when sick, will get on their basking area, and stay there. If hes still swimming, hes not that sick. Check for the usual signs: shell softness, swollen eyes, blowing bubbles (not underwater, i mean snot bubbles when hes out of the water). These are signs of sickness and you might want to consider taking him to a local herp vet (vet for reptiles). All of the links below are ways to find a local herp vet.

Also the last link is to a great forum and resource for information on turtles. They have no connection with the part of the site that sells the turtles. Its merely a forum with a large population of turtle owners. Post a question there and it will be answered quickly.

Does it have a rock or somewhere to get out of the water? Even water turtles need a place to bask in the sun. What kind of turtle is this? Are you sure it's the type to be in water? Are you supplying some sun or a sun type lamp so it will get the vitamins it needs?
There are pleny of on-line turtle sites that will tell you how to care for your turtle. Research the proper care before you kill it.

Something is badly wrong here, but there is not enough info to help.

I can't tell if you have a land turtle in a water tank, a water turtle with pneumonia or another disease, or a turtle in cold water with a bad diet.

If you told us what kind of turtle, how big it was, and what kind of set-up you have, it would really help.

You might also post a note at the Urgent Care section of http://www.turtleforum.com for quick help.

Take your turtle to a vet or someone who specializes in sick turtles. I have red eared sliders and they need very specific things to thrive.

have you tried to get it out of the water? it may be exhausted from some unknown struggle. get him out of the water on on land. then wait if he does not regain his strength shortly get him to a vet.
