More specifically, a homogeneous mixture is one that is the same consistency throughout the entire mixture. Sugar dissolves completely in water, distributing equally throughout the mixture. Sand doesn't dissolve, so it all goes to the bottom (so the bottom is more salty than the top). Iron filings and dry ice are not mixtures, since there is only one substance present.

i agree with what the other answerers have said just that dry ice is homogeneous even though it is a solid.dry ice is carbon dioxide that has been frozen to becone ice and it has the same composition throughout so it is homogeneous as well as the sugar in water and well the other two are heterogeneous because of the other answers stated above
