I want a good machine that can also do minimal monogramming. I have a pretty ideal budget and want to get a machine that will last a long time.

It depends on what you want for monogramming. If you want something that will only do the letters Shark Euro pro has one that has 2 or 3 typefaces for not a whole lot of money. http://tinyurl.com/yomaon

If you want more embroidery capacity Brother makes the most reasonably priced one. http://www.brother-usa.com/homesewing/product_cat.aspx?cat=sew_emb

I have a janome 6500 and love it... It has 3 alphabets and a lot of stitches..Buy from a dealer is the biggest thing you can do incase anything goes wrong the warranty work usually can be there. Take all the free lessons with the machine and buy the best machine you can afford. A lot of people buy cheapy machines and end up buying a better one within a year because it doesn't have everything they want.. I like Janome. Bernina and Huskavana are great machine also Pfaff..
