I sit-in on lots of interviews, and do a lot myself. I have met candidates of all backgrounds, and going for all sorts of positions, but I tend to find the "Funny" ones are the first ones booted out.

A lot of interviews are done Formally, so jokes off-set the mood. If the interviewer is going for formal interview style, your chances are dead.

Humour is a strange thing; Its funny, so to speak. Jokes that some may find funny, others don't. Some jokes are not understood by everyone. It is not a good idea to tell a joke to someone you have only just met, and therefore are not aware of how they would react to something.

Sometimes jokes can break the ice, and help you make an impact. Is the secret to great humour not Timing? Slip in an odd joke if the chance comes up, but don't force it. and make it unbiased, simple, and non-insulting.

One interview I went to, I was directed to the third door on the left. I knocked as I was going in, and the reply came as "Who's there". An instant moment to reply with a simple Knock-knock joke. Justin, I replied, Justin who; Justin to help you increase your sales figures.

There is a time and place to project a sense of humor. Knowing when and where to use humor is an art. Humor is a great way to 'break the ice' in an interview setting. Be careful though. You want to put your interviewer at ease and put your personal power to work for you.

have you seen pursuit of happiness? in that movie will smith's character demonstrates how to be light and funny in a serious work atmosphere. When he is put on the stop he answers questions such as, "What would you say if i hired someone who walked in here without a shirt on?" by saying "well he must have some pretty nice pants on." i thought his response was brilliant and i always wanted to have have smart quirky sense of humor in the work place. Check out the movie if you haven't, because it might give you some good pointers.
at work you must balance humor and work ethics.
