Manners come with respect. Generally I only let them lapse if I'm goofing around and my friends know I'm not trying to be offensive. Even when I'm seething, for some reason I can still snap out of it and use manners. I think, aside from the way I was brought up, I know that being rude (even if the other guy starts it) only breeds more rudeness. You can turn someone's day around by treating them with kindness and respect, and in turn their behaviour toward others may improve. Therefore, using manners can spread positive behaviour. Sounds corny, I know, but I believe in it.

Indeed I do, my parents insisted that `manners maketh man` or woman whatever the case may be.So ingrained in me are manners, that I even say `excuse me please` if I have to squeeze past the dog, or ` sorry dog` if I happen to get in her way .Even when alone if I sneeze, I say `bless me`. Even although I am a woman, I will give up my seat on the train to someone older than myself. ( man or woman) and I always hold open a door for someone rather than let it slam in their face. Good manners never go out of fashion, and are a joy to behold in others.

Well i do try but sometimes I'm in such a hurry that I just don't have time, later on I usually call and apologise for my rudeness, manners do make the man/woman, and i do like it when people have manners.

I can honestly say I do. When it's time for manners. But when it's the right time to shuck those manners, you would never know I was the same girl... ; )

I love the way they all picked up on the split infinitive. Not very good manners to point out ones shortcomings I think!

Please permit one to express ones opinion on this subject. Firstly, thank you for the opportunity to reply to your most interesting and well thought out question. Whether it is nobler to state ones belief in a lifes' devotion to good manners and the highest standards of behaviour, or project a sense of modesty, which may, or may not reflect an Englishman's' sense of decency, one is not sure.
On the practical issue of whether one is aware of ones consideration to ones friends and acquaintances, then I can give you my assurance that one would always open the door for a lady, or perhaps withdraw her chair at the dinner table. However, one does get used to ones servants doing it all for one.
Yes, if one needs to put ones cards on the table, one would confidently state that one would always make ones female companion feel as if she 'was the only girl in the world'
One trusts ones answer is sufficient to satisfy the enquirer.
Thank you most sincerely for reading ones account today, and please do not hesitate to proffer your most valued thoughts on this sensitive issue. Goodbye!
