I'm not sure it's that everyone hates the French language. Most people I've met think that it sounds nice or romantic, something to that effect.
What Americans are upset about is the fact that France didn't side with us in the war in Iraq in the way we wanted. France didn't support the war and Americans labeled the French cowards. Remember how we even renamed "French fries" "Freedom Fries" on Capitol Hill.
From living in France for a few months recently, I can tell you that the French don't hate Americans. They are generally not impressed with our leadership, but they were nothing but warm and friendly to me. I expect that Americans would welcome French visitors in much the same way I was welcomed in France.

i'm sure not everybody hates the french, i know i don't. but a lot of people "dislike" the french, because they betrayed the americans in a war. americans then inhumanely blamed the french for all of their political troubles, threw rude names at them such as "french cowards", and called them "betrayers". the bond between most americans and the french are continuosly pulling apart because of our childish behavior. i think it's time americans start letting go of their anger about something that has happened a long time ago, before most of us were even born.
i hope i answered your question :-)

Oh, lessee.
Napoleon's trying to take over the world. (Even during communism, we had a certain fondness for the Soviets, as they were the ones who kicked old Bonaparte's butt.)
Vichy government. Mais, oui, M. Hitler. You may have our coast without any resistance from which to fire your so-lovely guns at the British. You would like to gas our Jews in your so-lovely concentration camps? But of course. They are just a nuisance anyway.
Whole stupid French Revolution. Not the idea of getting rid of the monarchy, which is the right of every nation that so chooses. But the beheading of Lavoisier? And just because he'd disproven the existence of phlogiston and made Marat look like a fool. Not to mention the thousands of ordinary citizens who were beheaded for no apparent reason. Just following in the tradition of Queen Catherine, I suppose.
It was Dennis Miller who said, "What do you expect from a culture and a nation that exerted more of its national will fighting against Disney World and Big Macs than against the Nazis?"

Because we're jealous of their food or their climate or their health service or their working hours or their ability to control their politicians or their judicial system or their relaxed way of life or any or none of these things.
When the Americans were renaming things so that they could avoid referring to the hated French, did they consider returning the Statue of Liberty to France? Yeah, I'll bet they did!

Its a bit of a generalisation. However I have found some French people to be arrogant and abrupt. I used to work for a French company and I found most of them were really nice people despite the fact they smelt of onions and garlic.

Do you mean the people? The language? The people are, as you would find anywhere else, a melange of good, not so good, average, below average and bad. The language is beautiful, expressive and a joy to learn. Give it a try.
