Introduce as a large/whole group and then reinforce and practice during learning center time.

All of the above. Mix it up and it will keep learning more fun and engaging for all kids.

Not all students learn the same way, so introducing a new concept the same way every time can favor a certain learning style. For example, if you always introduce a new theme topic during larger-group time it will favor kids that learn best through audio (aural- as talking/lecturing is a major part of large-group teaching starting in Pre-K) and read/write (as you probably write some things on the board). Kids that prefer learning to presented visually (pictures, graphs, etc.) and through action (kinestetic) will be less effective.

Since learning styles aren't fixed (every child can learn all 4 of these ways, one is just typically dominant), it also gives kids an opportunity to improve their weaker styles and become more comfortable learning a different way.

Unfortunately, most schools normally present material in a manner that favors the aural and read/write learning styles. This puts many students at a disadvantage.

The difficult part about this is that it challenges the teacher to be more creative in lesson planning and forces you to think outside the box.

Larger group time. Anytime the class is changing course you want to address them as a group. Do something to get them really excited about the topic. Tell them it's a learning adventure you'll be taking together. Then outline what you'll learn. Or better yet, start out brainstorming what we already know. Then move on from there...

I would think logically it would be during the larger-group time.
