Extortion is a criminal offense, which occurs when a person either obtains money, property or services from another through coercion or intimidation or threatens one with physical harm unless they are paid money or property. Refraining from doing harm is sometimes euphemistically called protection. Extortion is commonly practiced by organized crime groups. The actual obtainment of money or property is not required to commit the offense. Making a threat of violence or a lawsuit which refers to a requirement of a payment of money or property to halt future violence or lawsuit is sufficient to commit the offense. The simple four words "pay up or else" are sufficient to constitute the crime of extortion. An extortionate threat made to another in jest is still extortion

I don't think in a country where we can vote to change governments that you can call the enforcement of out taxes extortion. If you dont like the taxes here you can always vote for someone with a different idea or stand yourself if you like and see how many people agree with you. The other alternative is for you to go somewhere else where you are more comfortable with the laws.

Sure. A lot of what a government does is illegal when doen by a private citizen. Printing money, stockpiling nuclear weapons, imprisoning criminals, collecting taxes, etc... ...many of those things are things that need to be done for the good of the country and the maintainence of the rule of law. Others, however, are just plain wrong, no matter who's doing them. Ponzi schemes are one of the latter.

That's true. On the other hand the government also makes the laws that define "extortion" etc.. so it fact it can do what it wants. Taxes are just that; extortion.

Our government (Big Brother), gets away with it because American citizens have no backbone to stand up to it. Whatever Big Brother does is thought to be for our own good. Makes me sick. Our founding fathers must be turning in their graves. This country once was an example for the world.
