The mean of a set of numbers is a statistical term that determines the average of a set of numbers. There are many different means, with the arithmetic mean being the most common. It is simply adding up a group of numbers, for example, the test scores in your math class, and then dividing by the number of people in the class.
If you have 5 people in the class, and the grades were distributed thus: 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, the mean, or average score would be the following: 400/5 = 80.
Hope this helps.

Mean or average of marks obtained in exam of all students in your class means, had all of you secured equal marks, what it would have neen. Got the cue ? Well, add up everybody's mark and count how many are you. Divide the total marks by your total number. This is just to have an idea of what marks are obtained by an average student in your class, or section. if another section has a higher average, then it is a reasonable idea that that section has students better than yours on the average. This does not mean has the highest score in your section is less than the highest score in theirs'.
This is just to have an idea. Sometimes it is very very misleading. A story goes like this. One pundit asked a bystander, how deep was the water in the river. He did not know how to swim, poor he. The other fellow also did not know how to swim. But he had crossed the river in another direction and reported that the river is only knn deep on the average. The pundit took a chance and padded through the river. At first he found the water ankle deep. So he jeered at the neighbour thinking how ignorant he was. Soon he got into deep waters and into deep trouble as well. However the poor pundit was rescued from drowning and he understood how misleading the concept of average could be.

The "mean" is the average of a series of numbers.

Add up the numbers, divide it by the amount of numbers you had, including zeros.

0, 1, 2, 3.

The mean is

0+1+2+3=6

6/4=3/2
