perhaps it is an actual virus it's preventing. I use the dc++ networks so I'm not as familiar with limewire but if you know what you're doing and have some good common sense you could turn the norton off when you're downloading. Try to avoid anything that pops up too quick in the search, file name doesn't match the search, or anything that the file size is off either too high or too low.
I've gotten....well let's say I've gotten quite a lot of the dc hubs and have never run into any virus trouble so you might want to give that a shot as well.
PS....I just love those guys that get all upset over limewire. I mean really I do. We do need some people like that willing to shell out some bucks to pay for all our free software and music ;)

Well some things "may" slip through. I guess every Anti-Virus has a weak point. But, in most cases it will catch stuff. I just not want to say it 100% effective. Find a good online scanner as a backup to Norton. If, you using XP take a System Snap Shot before downloading and if you have a problem after the down load then do a System Restore to get rid of what you downloaded.

Its not a guarantee. And its not just viruses you need to worry about, its trojans (spyware) as well and an anti virus is no protection against spyware.
You should never download anything if you can't see the file extension. A music file is .mp3, a virus or trojan is .mp3.exe or something else.
So make sure you have Windows set up to show file extensions;
Open your 'my docs' folder and click Tools - Folder Options and then the View tab.
Make sure the box that says 'hide file extensions for known file types is unticked.
Click Apply then OK tosave your changes.
Download to the desktop, preferable on a limited user account that you set up to use Limewire, not an administrators account.
Install decent anti spyware and keep it updated. Scan all files for viruses and spyware after you download.
System restore won't protect you from either; in fact it can harbour them so they keep re-installing themselves.
There are better download sites for software, try
download.com
snapfiles.com
sourceforge.net
All the software is legal and most of it is freeware.

I have been using Limewire for a while now. And sometimes I notice my machine starts slowing up. But every morning I run 3 different progs to clean my machine. I have yet to pick up a Trojan from that site......perhaps I shouldn't speak too soon.
But there are lots of free computer scanning progs on the internet that will solve most, if not all, adaware and the like problems.
The free download of AVG gets rid of my adaware, but there are others.
In 5 years on the net, and downloading at will, I have only had one serious problem; and that only involved reinstalling the op. sys and doing a system restore.
Why are you paying good money for Norton, when there are similar progs on the net for free - have a look.
Hope this helps.
(p.s. Limewire will appear as a 'threat' on any scan you do. Just ignore it.)

Yes Norton probably will protect you, but beware of what you download. Often these downloads contain viruses so scan them before use.

Norton Antiv virus is so bad at restricting your use on a computer and causing problems that many see it as a virus itself. Want my advice? get rid of Norton!

It should, but always right-click the file and do a manual scan before running any downloaded program. And, keep downloading free stuff, that's what it all about! My computer is loaded to the brim with free s.hit!
