Nothing makes kids laugh more it seems, than grown ups falling down, getting hurt, etc. Does anyone know why?

I can't say that I don't encourage/exploit the easy laughs from falling down, one favorite (and Joe original) is
Knock knock (cover both eyes with both hands)
Who's there?
Pirate with two eye patches
Pirate with two eye patches who?
Pirate with two eye patches who always trips and falls!!!! (then I trip and fall over something with my hands over my eyes)
Corny, but uprorious laughter everytime....

I am no kid and when I see someone fall or something it just happens, I laugh,,,(unless it is obvious that they are hurt)...face it falling is funny...one time my mom (very over weight) said she could ride a bike still and she took a spill on it that took about 20 min. in all...she wasn't hurt but just watching the fall put me in the dirt laughing...she was okay...but mad for days...I even got a picture before she got up...

I believe that depending on the maturity of the child, they laugh for many different reasons. Adults laugh at the pain and embarassment of adults, too. Not many adults laugh at a crying child, though, because we know it's wrong to torment the innocent. (although some do and it's wicked)
when I was a kid, I used to laugh at adults in general because they said and did silly things that amused me. I laughed when they cursed because they hit their thumb with a hammer, I laughed when they say "OW!"
I have to say that I didn't laugh at someone who was crying.
I think kids are laughing at the reaction of the adult who has hurt himself.

I think it's because they feel better seeing grown ups falling down.If you see, they're always getting hurt with small things...y'know...kids are just like that...so it's like a revenge see bigger people getting hurt!
