You and thousands of other youngsters. Either that or the NBA or NFL. The odds are really not in your favor for any of these short lived careers. Are you getting an education to back up that dream?
When this phenomenon first emerged I was teaching 6th grade. It amazed me how many poorly written "raps" I intercepted during class! They were all going to make it big and be as rich and famous as Too Short. That was about 10 years ago and I haven't seen a single one of them in the news. They'd have done better to have paid attention in class and learned to read and to spell b**ch, and more respectful and useful words correctly, as most of them couldn't . I wonder where they and their pipe dreams are now?
Still, I am in the business of encouraging people. So, try auditioning in local contests sponsored by radio stations. That might be your best shot to break into that industry. Just make sure you also get an education. With an education you could consider production, writing, promotions, and ownership of a recording label. That would be more practical and lucrative. It's where the real money is, so dream bigger. An NBA or NFL player is rich, sure; but the OWNERS of the teams are both wealthier and healthier. They are using their brains and not their bodies.
Good luck to you.

Start by doing underground music make your name be known in the streets like for example soulja boy was underground for 2 years and he got exposure by disguising his music with some one else music like for example for crank dat he uploaded and renamed it as one of 50 cent songs and another thing your friend could do is set up a myspace music page and add all music producers and fans and and constantly send them his music really try to network because myspace is a good place to network since everyone be on there but sean kingston he got discovered by constantly posting his music on a music producers page until he finally checked out his music and cassie also got discovered on myspace too myspace is a great place to try to promote music

Can you write lyrics? Can you flow? Have anyone NOT related to you, told you can genuinely rap? If so, then go to a studio record a demo. And send copies to some record labels with your contact information. Wait and see what happens. And you can also send your demo to a local radio station.

what do need to do is make about 2 or 3 tracks then put in on myspace and soundclick.com(all unsigned ppl wanting to get signed go here). then make another 2 or 3 tracks with other people, so they can see how u do collab with other people. Also u need to get a street team to go around promoting u, putting up posters and playing your music in thier car,
