All the pundits and commentators keep banging on about the special magic of the FA cup, but who really believes that anymore? Yeh, it used to be special in the 70s and 80s with classic games, and the FA cup final the only live televised game of the year. Now there's live footie on tv practically everynight, and the top clubs focus is clearly on the Premiership title and the champions league, or the UEFA cup if they don't make the champions league. Although they give the FA cup rhetorical support when interviewed on tv, it seems to me the players and managers just see it as a bit of an irritating distraction. And now the fans as well. Anyone see all the empty seats at many of the FA cup ties this season? Even Arsenal's bore draw with Blackburn this afternoon had thousands of empty seats despite the club saying the game was 'sold out'. So they sold all the tickets but the fans couldn't even be bothered to turn up? Despite having paid for a ticket? Is that the 'magic of the cup'??

Yeah we all understand that the pundits and commentators talk a lot of **** sometimes but certainly the FA cup still hold is level, maybe not like in the past. Some few days back i watched Bolton vs Arsenal, they played a fourth round tie as if it was a world cup final.Yes regarding the empty seats it is the so call chairmen and directors of football that are to blame because they're taking advantage of the love people have for football to rip them off.

Anyone who saw last years FA final wouldnt ask that question, it is the only competition in the world where a local village team is in the same competition as the top flight teams, alright they might not get to the actual final but over the years there have been many embarrasing upsets for the top clubs. Lost its magic never.

i don't think so......in terms of prestige the fa cup has maybe been superceded by the EPL and Champions League but as the oldest trophy in football it is still highly regarded and coveted. maybe not AS much as before but it is still very sought after

the magic people refer to with the fa cup is generally because of the integration of teams - the tiniest second division teams get to clash with the giants and throughout history this fact has resulted in some of the greatest upsets in world football! as well as some stunning matches between the greatest clubs in england...

i think the fa cup will always have 'magic associated with it'

what have you been watching lately? perhaps you are desensitized by over exposure from football.

the magic is STILL there. the mere fact that clubs from the lower leagues continue to upset some of the bigger names is a testament of the FA Cup's magic.
