3 seems kind of young for a pet especially a Hamster. If you just plan on having the Hamster to look at, I would say get a fish instead. If Hamsters don't get human interaction they can become afraid of humans and bite and not be pleasant, plus with a younger child he could try to squeeze the hamster to death.

they make good pets if you handle them alot and are very easy to look after. The best hamster to go for is a russian dwarf hamster as they are very friendly little creaTures. You'll need to clean the cage out once a week and handle the hamster on a daily basis. Females are better as the males tend to have a more potent smell. Hope this helps!

yes hamsters are a good pet but there is a big resposabilty as well with all pets . just make sure befor you go all out write all your qustions down show the pet shop and go from there .all so if you want more than one do you want them breeding Carefull with that one and that the cage is big enough for 2 or get seprat cages .they are a fun pet my kids have 2 of them . they cant be near a draft they can get sick easly all so .my sejstion is to write all your qustions down call up a pet store near you and ask them and see if you and your boys are ready for hamsters . they are a very fun pet but like all pets they have to depend on the pet owner to care for them properly .good luck and hope i have helped ya . if ya have qustions email me off my page ...

yes, hamsters are good pets, they are very friendly if you treat them rite. but you do have to clean there cages alot. and dogs might not like the hamster, and might try to mess with it when no one is around, unless you have a dog that is friendly to other pets

Otherwise, hamsters are a good family pet, and you guys should have fun with it

hamsters and younger children do not go well together. we had to give ours away when it bit my 1 1/2 year old. i'd advise getting him a rat instead. they tend to be very gentle with children.

well hamsters are very easy to take care of, but they are nocturnal, so when your son wants to play with it, it will be asleep. hamsters pee when you pick them up, and they tend to bite.
it's still your choice, but i really just wanted to suggest 2 gerbils. gerbils are awake in the day, more entertaining, unlike hamsters who are curled up in a ball in the corner, and i really think your son would have more fun watching gerbils, bcuz the hamster is asleep in the day, and awake at night(not very fun). hamsters are solitary. gerbils are friendlier, and don't pee everytime you pick them up.

here is info. on both:

i hope i helped :)

it will take awhile for him to get used to handling it, they are standoffish at first, then warm up later. they should be left alone for 24 hrs.
