I have never been someone that eats a lot. Not bc I do this on purpose this is just how I am. I am 14 weeks pregnant now and I have really been trying to eat a lot for the baby well more than usual. The thing is that I am not that hungry. I have not had any cravings what so ever in my pregnancy (this is my first). I hear people say you must eat for two then my friend told me that simply is not true and that's how women get so fat and gain excess weight. She said eat when your hungry and don't if your not. This is my usual daily intake: since I have been pregnant I can not sleep what so ever so usually I just lay in bed until I get knocked out at like 7-10 am (I KNOW) then I toss and turn until like 5pm. When I do get up my tummy hurts but when I first get up and eat its hard and I don't feel well. I try to eat toast and my husband usually makes it for me bc he forces me to eat. Then I will eat dinner and snack through the night. Maybe fruit or whatever. I know this is all bad but what can I do to change this and do the right thing? Also, I do not take pre natal vitamins bc they made me deathly ill and so many women on here told me that did not as well and their babies were fine.

I am 16 weeks as well. You should get around 200-300 calories more a day then before. Thats not that much, its like a yogurt and a granola bar. As long as you eat when you are hungry and your calorie intake in not too low (not lower than 1300)You should be fine. In time you will need more calories as the baby gets bigger but you will probably be feeling better and wanting to eat more as well. I suggest prenatal vitamins just because there are a lot of thinsgthe baby needs that we probably dont get enough of- calcium, folic acid and many other things. If they make u sick trying take them with a bigger meal. Also if you had a somewhat normal sleep pattern that might help u be hungry more too. I know if I take a nap and wake up at 5 pm I am not hungry for a while either. It throws of your whole system. Your doctor should be able to help you with the sleep issue. Hope this helps

Your friend is partially right. You don't have to "eat for two," you just need an extra 300-500 calories a day (which really isn't that much if you think about it). BUT...you DO need to eat. If I were you, I'd make sure to get at least 3 meals a day. If you're having a hard time eating because you don't feel hungry, you could keep some nutrition bars or other snacks around and slowly munch on them throughout the day. You could also talk to your doctor about supplements that could take the place of your prenatals...like some folic acid and vitamin b supplements.

Eat what and when you want...nature takes care of the rest. Forget that eating for two crap, that's almost 5000 calories a day! Good luck losing that weight! I took flintstones because i can't swallow the horse pills that are prenatal vitamins. And if you don't change anything, at least really try a vitamin-but for you. That body of yours will give every last stich of nutrition to that baby and you will be left feeling exhausted with weird skin and bad hair and horrid breath. But be mellow, you are a baby machine. The body knows what to do. Congrats. Good luck.

Your baby's fine. You're only 14 wks. Don't worry, your appetite is coming. If you are getting sick from your prenatals, try taking it at night when preg sickness isn't that bad. If that doesn't work, ask your dr for a new one. My friend couldn't take them at all and took Flintstones vitamins and had big healthy babies.

Most women who eat well really don't need prenatals but they're a good backup just to be sure. To be totally honest with you, your body will care your baby before you and if it means pulling nutritients from your teeth, skin, and bones, it will. Your dr will also be watching your and your baby's weight gain. Don't worry.
