Henry Kissinger was the National Security Advisor for President Nixon from 1969 to 1973, and Secretary of State from 1973 to, I believe, 1977 (also under President Gerald Ford).

Before joining the Nixon Administration he was a Harvard professor and an expert on diplomacy. He wrote a book on the Congress of Vienna. The treaty of Vienna in 1815 was a fair peace treaty that promoted stability in Europe.

Henry Kissinger made many contributions to peace. Primarily he negotiated, mostly secretly, with the North Vietnamese. Finally, in 1973 the Vietnam War ended. Kissinger's meetings with the North Vietnamese were a key part of that peace treaty. Although the treaty can be criticized, keep in mind that there are no real diplomatic efforts in Iraq now, or in Iran, or elsewhere in the Bush Administration. No end for the Iraqi quagmire is in sight.

Kissinger was a real diplomat for peace. When Nixon was president the then Soviet Union and Communist China were enemies, who were in great conflict. Kissinger helped arrange Nixon going to Communist China (People's Republic of China) and signing a peace treaty. This was basically successful. The start of better Chinese and American relations were Kissinger's negotiations and Nixon's trip. Kissinger encouraged a policy of "detente." When the United States and Communist countries were in world conflict, Nixon and KIssinger supported the idea of learning to live peacefully together, even if we did not love or even like each other. The Cold War is largely over so the significance of this may not be clear today, but it was very good then. We could use more capable United States diplomacy today that Dr. Kissinger helped provide. By the way, he did not believe in a weak military; in fact he advocated a strong Army for defense, TO PREVENT WARS. We could sure use someone like him today.

I am not saying Dr. Kissinger was perfect. People could say he had a large ego, could make fun of his heavy German accent, but that does not seem part of the big picture to me.

Sources on the Nixon Presidency would have information on Henry Kissinger. World Book, of course, is always good and usually lists sources. I think Bernard Kalb wrote a good biography of Kissinger. Always remember in preparing a report you can skim through sources, and focus on the major events, so you do not get bogged down. Good luck with your report.

Start by searching for him on wikipedia. Those articles usually contain links to other web pages or list other sources of information which you could use for your report.

Henry Kissinger was good at getting peace because he was willing to sell out the country to get it.

nicely, all Kissinger suggested replaced into that he believed there could be no pre-circumstance to having important talks with the government of any state, despite if it have been adversarial. Obama remarked that he suggested that, and so McCain and Kissinger began to spin to advise that he did not advise *severe-point* talks or *president-to-president* talks, in simple terms "talks" quite often. needless to say, with a view to have significant talks over matters, you are able to deliver in particularly who's a minimum of a minister plenipotentiary (deputy chief of undertaking, variety of like an envoy's 2d-in-command) to habit them, and that calls for somebody who has the great own credit of the President himself, and is in simple terms 2 or 3 people removed from the President in terms of stages of hierarchy. There are perhaps 3 hundred or so people in the USA who meet that requirement, and maximum of them are not Iran/center East experts.
