Bonsai is a style of tree, and there are 100's of species that are used for bonsai. First, you have to determine what species it is, and then we can determine how to treat the bug problem. If you are not sure of the species, you are welcome to send me a photo or describe the foliage to:

A temporary, quick way to get rid of bugs is to use alcohol on a q-tip and wipe them off. This will also help stabilize any disease, fungus, etc.

The exact answer depends on the kind of bugs but a very good general spray is neem oil. It comes from neem seeds and coats the insects and they suffocate. No poisons to worry about. Bonide has a good version called 3in1 Rx. If you happen to have a blue bonsai (like blue juniper) oil sprays can mess up the color. In that case I would use Safer Insecticidal Soap. If your favorite L&G Center doesn't carry these brands ask for something similar in a brand they carry. One thorough spray should do the trick.

You should try mixxing a little dish soap with water in a spray bottle and mist the plant. This will not kill the buggs or harm your plant but it will drive them out of the plant. Mabe you should put the plant in the bathtub when you do this so that any buggs that come off can be washed down the drain
