Hi,

I have just moved into a new house that has a Concept 6 alarm system installed. As the house is a repossesion, the previous owner decided not to leave any user manuals or operating codes for the system. The system hasn't been used for several years, indicated by the boxes not being active. However, all the wiring seems fine and I would be interested in seeing if i could get the system to work. How do I go about aquiring manuals for such a system (I cannot find a link to the company through yahoo) so that I can reprogram the system?

Many thanks,

CJ

The Concept 6 panel was made by Accenta which is now part of ADE-Honewell, they should be able to send a manual.

typically on an alarm system you pay a monitoring company like ADT to monitor the status of the system and respond as necessary. When you hire one of these companies they will send a tech out to program the system. They need to do this so that their system knows what your system is saying. Also they have the pass code to their system in which they do not give out yet your system needs to know it to transmit. They might even replace the main unit with one of theirs for free when you sign the contract. And since all modules work the same (sensors) and the wiring is already there you will not need a complete installation. One point to note; alarm systems use the phone lines to transmit alarm states which is readily accessible outside for anyone to cut thus disabling the system for 20 minutes (on the good systems). The alarm will make noise but can't call anywhere to report it. Until (on a good system ) the monitoring company expects an all clear signal and doesn't get one then all they do is call you! In short home alarm systems make you feel better but don't really secure anything.
