There is nothing like negative and positive ,it is just a way to distinguish b/w 2 kind o charges, there would be no change in the behavior o electron if they r given a positive denotion, but then u must notify protons as negative, when people for the first time came to know about charges they called one as negetive and the other as positive. It might would hav been the other way round.

There are two types of charges in the universe. Positive and negative. We give a name to the thing that has the smallest negative change by itself, we call it the electron.

the electron is an elementary particle, you have to search in quantum theories for the explanation of why it's charge is 1.602 176 53(14) × 10^-19 C
negative or positive is just a convention.

It has a negative charge because Benjamin Franklin labeled it negative in an experiment in the 18th century.
That is the only reason why it is "negative".
