I was shopping for a computer desk and noticed they all have the computer tower on the floor, in a cabinet close to the floor, or on a shelf near the floor. Why is that? does it improve performance or something?

No, it doesn't do anything for performance. It probably is just a size issue to get it out of the way. Also, it would help to hide all the unsightly wiring that goes along with a computer.

That is a very good question, since computers are vaccums drawing in anything that is near them on the floor. I keep my towers and desktop for the matter, on the desk. I even have one I built a shelf for and put it on the wall.
I guess the real answer is poor design.

Other than the fact that heat rises and the floor is the coolest place. The tower is a bulky thing and you wouldnt want it on your desk would you?
