If you have a manufactured computer, note the model number and go to the manufacturer's web site. You should be able to download the drivers there.

If you have a custom built or home built system, you will need to open the case. The maker and model is oftenly printed on the motherboard. You can note this information and should be able to download drivers from their web site.

If your motherboard is not marked, as some generic ones are not, you will need to identify your bus chip set. You will need find a larger square and flat chip soldered into the motherboard. These are usually made by VIA, Intel, SiS, TI, and others. Positively ID the chip set by entering the manufacturer's name and chip number into a search engine. In your case you will be looking for the bus/bridge that controls IDE/ATA/ATAPI functions. Once you have identified the chip set, you can usually download generic drivers from the chip set manufacturer's site.

******IMPORTANT NOTE******
Just because your BIOS "sees" the CD ROM does not mean that it is not defective. If it is defective, Windows may not see it. You may wish to try one of the following:

* Try a known good CD ROM in your PC.
*Try your CD ROM in another PC that the CD ROM is working.
*Take the CD ROM to a PC Repair Shop. Have the drive bench tested. Most shops will do this for free or for a small fee.

I hope you find your solution. Good luck
