What antivirus are you using? Some, like Norton, are very bloated. What OS are you using and how much RAM do you have? XP really needs at least 512 MB to run fast. What startup programs do you have? If you download HijackThis from www.merijn.org and run it with the "Scan and Save Logfile" button, when the logfile pops up, email hijackthis.log to me and I can tell you if there's stuff you need to remove.

It depends on which anti-virus & anti- spyware programs you have & how often you use them to scan your computer. Also getting regular downloaded updates so your computer recognizes new threats is key. I know some people who installed these protection programs, and just expected the program to do its thing and keep all the bad stuff out. I have mine set for updates, & I run a full computer scan once a week at least. If the security center just stays in there filed away, it's useless. You need to use it regularly.

antyvirus and antispyware are not usually help for making ur computer faster , u need some other program , try registry mechanic , or cclean "free" , and if u want the maximum performance try Advanced windows care pro, and also try to clean ur computer by skipping the program u dont use from starting up with ur computer , do the following start/run type msconfig choose service box and uncheck the useless program and then choose startup box and do the same then restart ur computer ,,,,,

That probably means that your RAM is insufficient for the work you do or you probably need a reinstallation of Windows. If not these, then you can download a program used to Speed up your computer eg. TuneUp Utilities 2007. However, there are also some free programs.

The system is bound to run slowly because of the anti virus softwares. The anti-virus softwares needs a lot of memory to run and continously check your files. If however you need to run your system fast you would have to upgrade or increase your RAM. and uninstall the unnecassary screen savers and other programs that run continously on your system.

installing those program will not make you laptop more faster, it will just detect/scan your laptop for virus and spyware. sometimes it makes your computer more slower if you don't have enough memory. you need to delete temporary files(use disk cleanup) and everything that is obsolete to your computer, empty your recycle bin, remove unused or rarely used program/s and defrag you drive. it will help your laptop runs faster.
