Sometimes the Academy rewards a career, not necessarily the work for the nomination. If Scorsese gets the Oscar this year, I think it might be because they owe him one. As much as I enjoyed "The Departed" I don't think it has been his best work.
My predictions for the most important nominations excluding actors & actrecess. I think Scorsese will win at least one of these.
Best Picture - Babel
Best Director - M. Scorsese
Best Original Screenplay - Pan's Labyrinth
Best Adapted Screenplay - The Departed
Haven't seen "The Queen" nor "Letters from I. J"... but still...

He's deserved it since "Goodfellas"; hopefully the Academy won't muck things up and give Scorsese his due!

The Departed is really weak compared to Goodfellas. Too bad he wasn't recognized for his finest work.
